The AHF showcase season got underway in a big way this weekend, with hundreds of games taking place across the McDavid, Gretzky and Lemieux divisions. From Friday afternoon through Sunday, teams across the 10U through 18U age groups filled the rinks for a packed opening weekend featuring undefeated performances, overtime thrillers and plenty of early-season excitement.

McDavid

The 10U McDavid division was one of the weekend’s biggest gatherings, with approximately 32 teams combining for more than 60 games over three days. Hartford Jr Wolfpack was among the clubs getting off to a strong start, earning victories in both its Friday and Saturday morning contests.

At 12U McDavid, all 28 teams took part in approximately 50 games, with MYHA Blue emerging as one of the weekend’s standouts by finishing unbeaten. The division also delivered a pair of overtime thrillers as the Igloo Jaguars edged MYHA Gold, 4-3, on Friday and the Montclair Blues defeated Team Philadelphia, 3-2, on Saturday.

The 14U McDavid division took the ice Saturday and Sunday, with 11 teams playing approximately 20 games. MYHA Blue led the way with an unbeaten four-game weekend. The Toms River Blackhawks and the Mercer Chiefs supplied Sunday’s biggest drama, with the Blackhawks earning a 5-4 overtime victory.

Gretzky

Over in 10U Gretzky, approximately 14 teams combined for 29 games and three overtime finishes. The Frederick Freeze put together the division’s most consistent performance, finishing 4-1 and closing its weekend with a dramatic 6-5 overtime victory over the Toms River Blackhawks.

The 12U Gretzky division featured approximately 23 teams and 45 games, but the Southern Maryland Sabres separated themselves from the field with a perfect 5-0 weekend. TI Selects also provided one of the showcase’s most exciting finishes, escaping with a 6-5 overtime victory against the Woodbridge Wolfpack.

At 14U Gretzky, 19 teams competed across approximately 38 games on Saturday and Sunday. MYHA turned in a strong showing, while Sunday’s schedule featured three overtime contests. The Jersey Colts edged the Hollydell Hurricanes 5-4, and the Toms River Blackhawks defeated the Philadelphia Blazers by the same score in two of the day’s extra-time finishes.

The overtime theme continued at 16U Gretzky, where 21 teams played approximately 40 games. The Hollydell Hurricanes earned a 2-1 OT win against MYHA Gold on Saturday, while the Palmyra Black Knights survived a 6-5 overtime battle with the NJ Jets.

At 18U Gretzky, all 21 teams were in action from Friday night through Sunday for approximately 39 games. The North Jersey Avalanche found themselves at the center of the weekend’s drama, splitting a pair of overtime contests on Saturday and Sunday.

Lemieux

The 10U Lemieux division featured approximately 25 teams and 50 games, with the Jr. Black Bears putting together a perfect 5-0 weekend. The Southern Maryland Sabres were no strangers to close games, appearing in all three of the division’s overtime contests.

No division was busier than 12U Lemieux, where approximately 34 teams combined for around 65 games. The Lancaster Firebirds led the way with a perfect 5-0 record. The Tri-City Eagles participated in all three overtime games in the division, including a wild 10-9 OT battle with Genesis Hockey Club on Sunday.

At 14U Lemieux, 27 teams played approximately 47 games beginning Friday night and continuing through Sunday. The Montclair Blues earned a 5-4 overtime victory against the Tri-City Eagles – Red on Saturday before MYHA Gold closed Sunday with a 3-2 OT win over Royals Hockey Club.

Finally, 16U Lemieux featured 22 teams and approximately 42 games over Saturday and Sunday. Team Philadelphia – Orange delivered one of the showcase’s top performances, going a perfect 4-0, while the Jersey Shore Wildcats – Red (Franklin) edged the Tri-City Eagles, 4-3, in overtime Sunday.

A Packed Start to the Season

Across the McDavid, Gretzky and Lemieux tiers, the opening showcase weekend featured hundreds of games and dozens of teams taking the ice across three action-packed days. Perfect weekends from Southern Maryland Sabres, Jr Black Bears, Lancaster Firebirds and Team Philadelphia Orange highlighted the results, while a steady stream of overtime finishes showed just how competitive the AHF season promises to be.

The AHF Kickoff Showcase action continues this weekend as 8U AAA and 9U-18U AA teams compete across Pennsylvania and New Jersey on September 4-6.
