GAME OF THE WEEKEND — Jersey Shore Wildcats Red 16L Franklin 6, Hollydell Hurricanes 16L 5. Hollydell trailed by three in the third period and scored three straight, Brennen Long tying it with 7.2 seconds to play — and then MJ Brullo won it for Jersey Shore at the buzzer.

TOP PLAYER PERFORMANCE — Christopher Greco (Jersey Shore Wildcats Red 16L Franklin, 16U Lemieux) scored four goals in that 6-5 win, then came back the next day with three more and the overtime winner as his side erased a three-goal deficit to win 5-4.

OT HERO — Rich Atieh (NJ Bandits 18AA) scored four goals, the last of them in overtime, as the Bandits beat Ramapo Saints 18AA 5-4 — two teams separated by almost nothing in KRACH.

GOALIE PERFORMANCE — Reilly Tangye (Lancaster Firebirds 15AA) stopped 53 shots in a 4-3 overtime win over Lehigh Valley Phantoms 15AA. Cam Rice (Team Philadelphia 16AA Black) made 34 saves for a shutout.

BIGGEST KRACH SURPRISE — Jersey Shore Wildcats 18AA turned in one of the weekend’s biggest surprises, beating a Toms River Blackhawks 18AA side rated well above them in KRACH, 4-3.

UNBEATEN WEEKEND — Sixteen teams came through three games without a loss, among them Team Philadelphia 11AA, Rockets Hockey Club 18AA, Lehigh Valley Phantoms 16L, Palmyra Black Knights 10L, Ramapo Saints 10M and Genesis Hockey Club 12GRY.

9U AA — Woodbridge Trade Punches and Win It Late

Woodbridge Wolfpack 9AA and Rockets Hockey Club 9AA swapped goals for three periods before Woodbridge settled it inside the final minute, Nicholas Castro and Michael Avramych scoring 34 seconds apart. Landon Gemenden finished with a goal and three assists and Vincent Kane scored twice. Hollydell Hurricanes 9AA won 7-5 behind two goals and three assists from RJ Kovarovic and 27 saves from Joseph Norbutas, while Tom’s River Blackhawks 9AA came out of the weekend 2-0-1.

10U AA — Zheng’s Three Carry Ashburn

Alex Zheng scored all three Ashburn Xtreme 10AA goals in a 3-2 win over Genesis Hockey Club 10AA, with Hank Kovacs making 23 saves behind him and adding a shutout the following day. Team Philadelphia 10AA won a back-and-forth game against MYHA 10AA 6-5, Everett Chamness scoring twice. Jaxson Fisher put up two goals and three assists for Genesis. Rockets Hockey Club 10AA, Mercer Chiefs 10AA, NJ Jets 10AA and Ashburn all finished unbeaten.

11U AA — Sauder Scores Four, Schmerling Wins It Late

Oliver Sauder scored every PBK 11AA goal in a 4-3 win over Delaware Ducks 11AA, and Anthony Madonna made 35 saves to protect it. Team Philadelphia 11AA went 3-0, closing with a 3-2 win at Igloo Jaguars 11AA on Vaughn Schmerling’s goal with 52.9 seconds left. Theodore Curran ended the weekend with six goals and five assists for Saugerties Mustangs 11AA.

12U AA — PBK Need Overtime, Woodbridge Come From Behind

Landon Miller’s overtime goal gave PBK 12AA a 3-2 win over Wissahickon Warriors 12AA after Luca Placeres had scored twice and Robert Lowry made 28 saves. Woodbridge Wolfpack 12AA wiped out a two-goal deficit to beat North Jersey Avalanche 12AA 4-3, Nico Mininni setting up three and James Sena scoring twice. Blazers 12AA goaltender Brendan Pollock turned aside 37 shots to earn a 3-3 draw with Rockets Hockey Club 12AA, and Team Philadelphia 12AA went 3-0.

13U AA — Presutti Ends It in Overtime

NJ Jets 13AA came from two down to beat NJ Bandits 13AA 5-4, Vincent Presutti burying the winner with 34.9 seconds left in overtime after Tommy Tatem and Jake Barter had combined for five points. Igloo Jaguars 13AA produced one of the weekend’s biggest surprises, also coming from two behind to beat a Mercer Chiefs 13AA side rated well above them in KRACH, 6-5, with Jonah Welner making 38 saves and Ryan Burke scoring twice. Liam Piccinnini stopped 43 shots to earn Jersey Shore Wildcats 13AA a 2-2 tie. Team Philadelphia 13AA Black went 3-0.

14U AA — Hollydell Erase Three

Hollydell Hurricanes 14AA trailed Genesis Hockey Club 14AA by three goals and won 4-3, Rudolph Lampi finishing with two goals and an assist and Shane Hicks-Cree scoring twice while Hayden Yudell made 39 saves; Yudell had already posted a shutout earlier in the weekend. Maxwell Denne stopped 46 shots in a 4-2 Team Philadelphia 14AA Orange win over Haverford Hawks 14AA. Wissahickon Warriors 14AA went 3-0.

15U AA — Tangye’s 53 Saves

Reilly Tangye turned aside 53 shots and Landon Plaugher scored in overtime as Lancaster Firebirds 15AA came from two down to beat Lehigh Valley Phantoms 15AA 4-3. Hollydell Hurricanes 15AA went 3-0, the pick of it a 4-2 win over Red Bank Generals 15AA in which Lucas Graf made 45 saves and Ralph Aversa scored the goal that broke the tie. Liam King also made 45 saves, for Montclair Blues 15AA in a 4-2 win.

16U AA — Kutchmarick and Rice Steal the Weekend

Lehigh Valley Phantoms 16AA won 2-1 at Team Philadelphia 16AA Black on the back of 43 saves from Drew Kutchmarick, with Zachary Durkin scoring and assisting. A day earlier Cam Rice had shut the door on Valley Forge Colonials 16AA with 34 saves for Team Philadelphia 16AA Black. Samuel Herring’s three goals and two assists hauled NJ Jets 16AA White back from two down to beat Ramapo Saints 16AA 7-5. Zain Khan made 48 saves for North Jersey Avalanche 16AA Blue, and Team Philadelphia 16AA Orange went 3-0.

18U AA — Three Overtimes and Gaffney Twice

No division went to overtime more often. Rich Atieh scored four times, the last the winner, in NJ Bandits 18AA’s 5-4 win at Ramapo Saints 18AA, with Jack Aluotto making 39 saves. Nolan Ludwig stopped 46 shots as VFC 18AA beat Wissahickon Warriors 18AA 3-2 on Jacob Bilotta’s goal with 1:01 left in the extra period. Daniel Gaffney decided two Mercer Chiefs 18AA wins in two days — the overtime winner against Lehigh Valley Phantoms 18AA and a goal with 1:34 left to beat Jersey Colts 18AA 4-3. Rockets Hockey Club 18AA and North Jersey Avalanche 18AA Blue both went 3-0.

10U Gretzky — Freeze Climb Back

Frederick Freeze 10GRY came from two goals down to beat York Devils 10GRY 6-4, with Liam O’Hern, Graham George and Eamon Roebuck each chipping in a goal and an assist, and finished the weekend unbeaten. Jersey Colts 10G wiped out a three-goal deficit of their own at Jersey Shore Wildcats 10GRY, Yoon Kim and Joseph LIDDELL scoring twice apiece. Delaware Ducks 10GRY also came through unbeaten, Brayden MacCarroll keeping a clean sheet.

12U Gretzky — Houck Settles It With 1:57 Left

Genesis Hockey Club 12GRY went 3-0 and closed it out 3-2 against TI Selects 12G on Mason Houck’s goal with 1:57 remaining, Austin Schleinkofer making 20 saves. Jersey Shore Wildcats 12GRY won by the same score against NJ Bandits 12GRY, Ennis Erndl stopping 31 shots while Maddox Reich and Landon Lee each had a goal and an assist. Igloo Jaguars 12GRY came out 2-0 with Brycen Bozzelli scoring five across the weekend.

14U Gretzky — Muehlbronner’s Weekend

Wissahickon Warriors 14GRY goaltender Wally Muehlbronner had the division’s best two days in net, a 34-save shutout followed by 29 saves in a 4-3 win over MYHA 14GRY that Christopher Mascia decided with 4:42 to play. Owen Gasper scored three times as Lehigh Valley Phantoms 14GRY edged Hollydell Hurricanes 14GRY 5-4, Finn Emerick adding a goal and two assists. Montclair Blues 14GRY twice came from behind to beat Saugerties Mustangs 14GRY 4-2, James Statham scoring twice including the winner, with Alex Anson making 29 saves.

16U Gretzky — Staudt Sets Up Four

Stephen Staudt assisted on four goals as Genesis Hockey Club 16GRY beat Blazers 16GRY 6-4, Kobe Dunn and Colby Booth each scoring twice. It was a strong weekend for goaltenders: Anthony Weaver made 34 saves for a York Devils 16GRY shutout, Gavin Edmonds 27 for a Blazers 16GRY shutout, and Austin Klotzbach 24 for another as Team Philadelphia 16GRY went 3-0. Joey Epperson scored three for Haverford Hawks 16GRY.

18U Gretzky — Colts and Blazers Split

Jersey Colts 18GRY and Blazers 18GRY split a tight two-game set: the Blazers took one 3-2, Rachel Swidorski making 27 saves, and the Colts the other 5-3 behind two goals each from Sean McCarthy and Ari Finkelman. Tom’s River Blackhawks 18GRY beat the Colts 5-3 as well, Gavin Senger posting two goals and two assists and Liam Fredrickson two and one, with Liam Barker making 32 saves. Mason Mariano stopped 35 in a 3-2 PBK 18GRY win and Tobey Schwartz 31 in a 2-1 Wissahickon Warriors 18GRY win. Team Philadelphia 18GRY Black went 3-0, Matthew Townsley scoring eight goals across the three games.

10U Lemieux — Three Games to Overtime

Palmyra Black Knights 10L went 3-0, the best of it a 6-5 overtime win over Frederick Freeze 10L in which Ignat Druker scored three and Mason Klinger finished it; Druker ended the weekend with eleven goals. Southern Maryland Sabres 10L also came from two behind and needed the extra period, Hagan Rumaker beating TI North Stars 10L 3-2 after Vincent Pasquale had scored twice. Genesis Hockey Club 10L won 5-4 at Haverford Hawks 10L with Alexander DeNofa contributing two goals and an assist.

12U Lemieux — Huffman’s Three Set Up a Late Winner

TI North Stars 12L came from two down to beat Team Philadelphia 12L White 4-3, Ben Huffman scoring three times and Lincoln Slack getting the winner with 1:31 left. Genesis Hockey Club 12L went 3-0, including a 6-4 win over Jr Black Bears 12L in which Nolan Stan and Brennen Dickinson each had two goals and an assist and Mason Mitchell made 30 saves. Emmett Brander’s three goals and an assist carried Royals Hockey Club 12L to a 6-4 win, and Gavin Chando stopped 36 shots for Hollydell Hurricanes 12L.

14U Lemieux — Three Lead Changes and an Overtime Winner

Montclair Blues 14L and Igloo Jaguars 14L traded the lead three times before Alessio LaCognata won it in overtime, 5-4, Mason Lewis scoring twice and Liam Dudas adding a goal and two assists while Nathan Picioccio made 28 saves. Luca Tubertini’s 24-save shutout gave Genesis Hockey Club 14L a 1-0 win over Palmyra Black Knights 14UL. Timothy Evans stopped 36 shots as Lehigh Valley Phantoms 14L beat NJ Jets 14L 3-2, Caiden Peters scoring both.

16U Lemieux — The Weekend’s Two Best Finishes

Christopher Greco scored four goals in a 6-5 win at Hollydell Hurricanes 16L — a game Hollydell had pulled level through Brennen Long with 7.2 seconds left before MJ Brullo won it at the buzzer — then added three more and the overtime winner the next day as Jersey Shore Wildcats Red 16L Franklin came from three down to win 5-4. Lucas Walsh matched him for timing, scoring twice in regulation and then winning it at the buzzer in overtime for Ramapo Saints 16L, 4-3, with Yotam Goldfarb making 33 saves. Jason Hmielewski’s 25-save shutout earned Tom’s River Blackhawks 16L a 1-0 win, and Lehigh Valley Phantoms 16L went 3-0.

10U McDavid — McLeman’s Five in a Seventeen-Goal Game

Rockets Hockey Club 10M and WBS Knights 10M played the wildest game of the weekend anywhere, the Rockets winning 9-8 with Grey McLeman scoring five and Ivy Zhang setting up four. McLeman finished the weekend with twelve goals, Wyatt Rubal of WBS with seven goals and four assists. Ramapo Saints 10M and PBK 10M both went 3-0, and York Devils 10M ground out a 2-1 win over Tri City Eagles 10M.

12U McDavid — Rivera Ends It With 36 Seconds Left

Skylands Kings 12M came from two behind to beat Mercer Chiefs 12M 4-3, Justin Rivera scoring with 36.3 seconds left in overtime. York Devils 12M edged Valley Forge Colonials 12M 8-7 on Cole Flanagan’s goal with 2:29 to play, Michael Sicuranza finishing with three goals and an assist. Will Sloan also scored three, in a 5-3 Ramapo Saints 12M win backed by 33 saves from Samuel Lakind.

14U McDavid — Dougherty’s Hat Trick Ends in Overtime

Deklyn Dougherty scored three times, the last of them in overtime, as Royals Hockey Club 14M beat MYHA 14M Gold 4-3 with Landon Wirchnianski making 23 saves. Jersey Shore Wildcats 14M and Team Philadelphia 14M could not be separated and finished 5-5, Chase Murison scoring three for the Wildcats. Valley Forge Colonials 14M went 2-0, Eric Lei making 35 saves and Parker Davidson scoring three.

8U AAA — Garipian Decides the Closest One

North Jersey Blizzard 8AAA won the division’s tightest game, Marco Garipian finishing with two goals and two assists and Tobey Gaylord scoring twice. Griffin Herits of LI Fisherman 8AAA had a six-goal game of his own over the weekend. LI Monarchs 2018 8AAA and Hollydell Jr Rebels Major 8AAA both came through unbeaten.

Mite Fall Faceoff Showcase

The AHF Mite Half-Ice Showcase brought a full weekend of youth hockey action to the ice October 3-4, with 215 games played across the 6U and 8U age levels. The showcase featured 6U, 8U Beginner, 8U Intermediate and 8U Advanced competition, giving young players the opportunity to develop their skills and compete against teams from across the region. Saturday opened the weekend with 105 matchups before another 110 games took place on Sunday, with action spread across Bridgewater Sports Arena, Grundy Arena, Pennsauken Skate Zone and ProSkate Ice Arena. From first-time competitors at the 6U level to the fast-paced 8U Advanced groups, the two-day showcase provided plenty of ice time, competition and memorable moments for the AHF’s youngest players.
