Featuring a wide array of divisions, including the 16U Gretzky and Lemieux, 18U A, and Half Ice Mites, this event, known as the Pucktober Showcase, promises an action-packed weekend of thrilling matchups spanning across New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

The Atlantic Hockey Federation is excited for its first Federation Education Series guest this season. This series will feature presentations for our players, families, and coaches on the landscape of hockey and Player Development. The first presentation will feature Ken Martel from USA Hockey.

With over 25 years of experience in player development and a long history as a coach with USA Hockey, Ken Martel was named senior director of player and coach development in November 2022. He is charged with helping provide a framework for associations nationwide to follow for optimal athlete development.

Martel has made appearances behind the bench of nine U.S. teams that have competed in International Ice Hockey Federation World Championships, including four times with the U.S. National Under-18 Team (2000-04), four times with the U.S. National Junior Team (2004, 2006, 2008-09) and once with the U.S. Women’s National Team (2007).

All are welcome to attend however, the presentation is targeted toward 8U to 12U ages. The presentation will cover player development, growth in hockey, what makes for a great youth sports experience, learning in an athletic context, and more.

With a short bench this week, Brynn played a ton of minutes for us. Her constant high energy and compete level shift after shift were so valuable to the team. Late in the second game, we moved her to wing. She had several offensive opportunities, but we just couldn’t get it done against the Black Bear goalie. Brynn had a great weekend.

He not only scored a hat-trick in regulation to keep his team in the game but also scored the game-winning goal in his first-ever 3 on 3 overtime experience. His positive attitude, sportsmanship, and perseverance have been keys to his team’s success in the early stage of the Jr. Black Bears season.

This weekly feature, running throughout the 2023-24 season, pays tribute to outstanding players across all divisions. Brycen helped his team go 4-0 this past weekend. He scored 24 goals and had 4 assists. He had 3GWG and 1 GWA with 5 shorthanded goals and 4 ppg. He also played well defensively.

Christian was a HUGE part of the Royal’s opening weekend netting 6 goals and 2 assists, including an impressive 3rd game vs. the Avalanche when his line was involved in 6 of the 7 scores of the game! His dynamic speed and silky stick handling helped him lead his team to a 2-2 start of the season! This will be a HUGE year for Christian with a performance like that!

Position: Center
Shane Hicks-Cree stepped into the center role with authority last weekend. Totaling 10 points with 9 goals and an Apple, Shane provided the offensive power when needed most. Coming off a defensive role last year, Shane is comfortable being the 3rd defenseman as well. Well done!

13U AA Division: Nominating Coach: Mark Krull

Eli had a great Showcase this weekend with 6 goals and 2 assists to help our team to a 4-0 record. Eli was a force at both ends of the ice, great start to the season Eli!

Russel had 8 goals and an assist in 4 games. He worked incredibly hard, ran our set faceoff plays with great success and helped motivate our team to a great come back victory in our fourth game this weekend.

Lochlain not only had 6 assists in the opening showcase, but also had 4 goals, totaling a team leading 10 points in 4 games!

14U Lemieux Division: Nominating Coach: Jason Miller

Finn scored 4 goals and 3 assists in 4 games in our first showcase of the year. Finn leads by example by giving 100% every shift, picking up his teammates with an encouraging word, and (in addition to scoring), does the little things that don’t show upm on the score sheet to help his team. Finn is a great kid who is respectful, hard working, and always puts the team first.

14U McDavid Division: Nominating Coach: Scott Monks

The Tomorrow’s Ice 14U North Stars Red team went 3-0-1 in their first showcase on the shoulders of their goaltender Brody Szyjka who made 101 saves on 106 shots, including 3 consecutive shutouts.

16U AA Division: Nominating Coach: Mike Shramek

Player’s Name: Connor McCluskey
Jersey Number: 53
Position: Forward
Connor led the team in +/- at +6. He led the team in scoring with 6 points (3 goals, 3 assists) with 0 PIMs. Connor “quietly” had a productive week and was involved with several very timely assists or goals on plays that either tying or go ahead goals on 2nd chance opportunities as a result of hard work and compete level. Equally as impressive, were several odd man chance against the Connor broke up by not giving up on plays defending the rush against (which will never end up on the stat line!).

16U Gretzky Division: Nominating Coach: Swede Farling

Gordon played extremely hard and disciplined in each position that we assigned to him at our FIM showcase. In the last game of the weekend, he positioned himself to block a shot that hobbled him, but he played on until we could get a line change. Gordon always plays “team first”!
